Launch of the 2023 UK Corporate Games Coventry & Warwickshire
The UK Corporate Games Launch
UK Corporate Games is the UK’s largest multi-sport festival for businesses which will be celebrating its 30th Anniversary in Coventry & Warwickshire from 3-6 August.
VIPs were welcomed to the UK Corporate Games Launch at Scarman House, University of Warwick on Thursday 16th February. Business representatives from across the region came together to understand what the UK Corporate Games has to offer both organisations and their employees, and also how it will benefit the local economy. The launch was opened by the Director of Warwick Conferences, Paul Bartlett, who said The University of Warwick was excited to be hosting the Games for the third time, as well as endorsing the benefits of participating in regular exercise for physical and mental wellness.
The Interim Chief Executive of Coventry City Council, Barrie Hastie, expressed how sport plays a big part in the city and explained the positive impact of hosting major events, including the Corporate Games, Rugby League World Cup, International Children’s Games and Commonwealth Games.
We know the honour and benefits of hosting the event and we know the economic impact it can have and the many benefits it brings. But most of all, we know how important it is for the businesses and individuals taking part. The Games represent so many of the values and beliefs that our city holds dear. They bring people from different places and backgrounds together in a celebration of sport. They encourage people to be active and healthy – and they are a lot of fun!
Games Director, Doug White followed the warm welcome from Barrie with a short presentation on the UK Corporate Games and shared the excitement of having a spectacular host city for the 30th anniversary with world-class facilities and sporting venues. Doug highlighted the long-standing company benefits and summarised wonderfully with a common expression used when referring to the Games – ‘Togetherness’. It was fitting that this was followed up by a fantastic first-hand experience talk from Elizabeth Porter, Executive Assistant to Senior Vice President at Insight, providing an overview of their teams experience and benefits from the 2022 Games in London. The presentation ended with an inspirational talk from Alison Oliver, CEO at the Youth Sport Trust, who shared the communal values that both UK Corporate Games and the Charity hold in regards to ‘inclusion through sport’ and the ‘importance of physical and mental wellbeing’.
The Games weekend kicks off with the SuperCentre Registration, being held at the Slate Building, University of Warwick. Saturday’s full day of 21 sports will be followed by the Welcome Festival, Grand Parade of Athletes & Great Games Party, where teams will have the opportunity to get together. The Welcome Festival will take place at the University of Warwick Piazza, where athletes will receive a warm welcome before the legendary tennis ball hit-out, live music and DJ will follow. Street food market and Bars will also be onsite.
Companies already signed up for 2023 include Freeths, Insight, EY, Barclays, Lloyds Banking Group, IBM, Places for People, Safran, IBM, University of Warwick, Warwickshire County Council… and many more.
The games are open to all for the benefit of all and with no qualifying standards, it’s the perfect opportunity for work colleagues to get together for a fun weekend.
